Why aren’t more people willing to take pay cuts and take the bus, if it is for the better of so many other people?

I know most people will go with the argument of “he worked so hard, and isn’t even reaping the rewards, he’s an idiot”.

But I’d honestly like to believe that some businessmen would rather go to the grave knowing they were an amazing boss and treated their employees fairly, caring more about the employees’ quality of lives than dying with billions of dollars.
